After hearing the most amazing stories I finally had the chance to experience it myself: WT Urban Kitchen. As most Utrechters will know it by the name ‘De Watertoren’, this restaurant is – like the name says – located in a historical water tower. It took over 5 years to renovate this tower but the result may definitely be there: delicious food and amazing scenery. Seriously this restaurant deserves a spot high on your must-visit list!

Let me take you back to 1907 when this historical tower was realized in Rotsoord. This iconic eyecatcher served the city of Utrecht for many years until it was renovated. Lucky for us the municipality of Utrecht decided to give this building a hospitality license. A few years after that WT Urban Kitchen was born! And what a restaurant this is. I visited many restaurants in Utrecht but this one is unlike anything I have been! It all starts when entering the tower, the elevator takes you up to the 9th or 10th floor. That feeling of excitement of what you are about to experience is already worth the wait. We were invited for a Saturday lunch, forget anything that you normally associate with lunch: this is a lunch #fancy style!

Accompanied by a variety of wine, perfectly matching every course, we enjoyed a parade of the most delicious foods. Everything passed the revue: meat, fish, veggies, fruit, potatoes and so on. What we especially loved is that every course had a special twist and an – at the table – introduction. Celeriac with egg yolk and truffle or a tamarillo tomato with raspberry and white chocolate: not things that will come to mind when I would be the chef, but such a surprisingly good combination.

Lunch was served on the 10th floor of WT Urban Kitchen: with a panoramic 360-degree view over Utrecht. I never had lunch with a view like this before! For dinner, you also have the option to eat at the 9th floor next to parts of the original water tank. Added bonus, you can sneak a peek in the open kitchen here. I was amazed to see how it almost feels like you are in a whole different restaurant while being at the 9th. To be honest, I think that with their unique scenery and amazing chefs an amazing experience at WT Urban Kitchen is always guaranteed.
